STORY
She’d already done the therapy.
Years of it. Sat in the chair, said the right things, learned the words. Some of it helped. Not enough. She could tell you exactly what was wrong with her and still not sleep.
So her husband asked her to try one more thing, and she came to a farm in the Shenandoah Valley mostly to prove it wouldn’t work either.
Here’s what’s different. There’s a licensed therapist in the arena. There’s an equine specialist. And there’s a horse, who has never read her file, does not know she served, does not care that she served, and will not thank her for it.
You cannot talk your way through a horse. It reads your heart rate and your breathing from across the arena and it responds to what is actually true, not to what you said. Every skill she built to get through the last eleven years is useless in there.
That’s the point. That’s why it works when the chair didn’t.
She stood at the rail with her arms crossed.
The horse walked over anyway. Put its head down. Wanted nothing.
She said it was the first thing in eleven years that didn’t.
She’s on session eleven now. She sleeps. Last month she brought someone from her department.
Insurance pays for the therapist. It will not pay for the horse.

WhO We ARe
Our entire budget this year is $50,000.
That’s the whole organization. Nobody takes a salary, not the Executive Director, not the board.
The $350 is not an administrative fee with a horse attached. It’s the therapist, the equine specialist, the horse, and the ground it all stands on. All of it goes into the arena.
Our overhead for the year, the insurance, the filing fees, the stamps, is $5,000. Everything else is sessions.
$50,000 is about 140 experiences. That’s our entire year.
$350 is not a donation. It’s a person you will never meet, unclenching their fists.

$30 a month buys someone an experience.
$60 a month buys two.
$100 a month buys three.
$150 a month carries one person start to finish. It’s the only thing that lets us tell someone they have a spot next month before we know who’s paying for it.
